I've been here for 3 days. It was lovely. I didn't sew a thing. Knitting, yes. I am fairly competent at the knit stitch, and can make a fine scarf using nothing but the knit stitch. I do not really branch out from there. Pearling requires a lot of mental effort and my short term memory is not the greatest. So if you were expecting an intarsia sweater from me for Christmas? Well, first, you are delusional. Second, you will be waiting a very LONG time. Reduce your expectations to a scarf. For next year.
There was also much shopping, to include this store, which is one of my favorites. I love their Murrano glass necklaces and hand painted tiles from Sorrento. LOVE THEM and their close proximity to the wonderful malt shop on Lake Superior.
We always drive down Scenic Drive, and check out all the little shops and restaurants along the way. In Two Harbors, just north of Duluth, we go to this store every year:
That is my arm in the lower right hand corner. I cropped out my Mother and I to protect the innocent. Her, not me.
All the women in my family own t-shirts from this store, and we have had pictures taken of all of us looking spiffy in them. This store is also the source of the clever magnets that I buy for friends and for myself and are always available for viewing on my fridge. My favorites are: "The secret ingredient was resentment," "it would, of course, have to look like an accident," "why do dishes when you can do daiquris?" "what muffled screams, officer?" and the best of all:
It really doesn't get any better than that. Now go! Run to the webpage and buy lots!
Lastly, I read the following book with my Mother while driving back and forth:
Very informative and in some cases a little silly. Wellingtons (#96)? In suburban Minnesota? O-kay. But when I realized the other day that I was wearing: Cable Knit sweater (#14), Clutch (#20), Diamond Studs (#27, fake, which is acceptable), Driving Shoe (#28), iPod (#41), Jeans (#42), Plain White Tee (#67), Underwear (#90 - essential) and Push-up Bra (#70 - don't judge!) I realized there may be something to this after all. But I'll let you know when my closet starts to overflow with Missoni (#56), Pucci (#69) and Animal Print (#2). Or that Investment Bag (#40 - Chanel, of course) that costs more than my mortgage.
And upon returning to my little house in the suburbs I was greeted by my happy family ("What did you get me?"), my shedding dog, and my sewing machine. And all was right with the world.
